I had wanted to attend meetings in Jeff City, but called to discuss a matter which occurred at a meeting in OFallon MO when I had attended there as I didn't want the "OFallon situation" to have a bearing on attending meetings in Jeff City. Inappropriate conversation had occurred at the meeting near St Louis, which I had reported to the St Louis Chapter, and rather than ousting the leader of that meeting, they ousted me. A staff member I spoke with in Jefferson City never got back to me in the time she told me she would. From what I had told her, she had indicated to me that it sounded like some "NAMI group leader rules weren't being followed" in the previous location where I had attended. She was supposed to investigate and follow up with me, which she failed to do. However, the St Louis NAMI Executive Director, who I didn't request to hear from, followed up with a 'not so nice" email, apparently standing by liberal-loose-lipped, off-the-mental-illness-topic-talk occurring in meetings under his jurisdiction, and banning me from all NAMI activity in his area as a consequence of me reporting poor NAMI conduct at the Ofallon, MO location. I should mention that another woman pulled her daughter from the same meeting location, so it's not just my perception that the meetings weren't handled well in Ofallon MO. If the Jefferson City area meetings are run like the St Louis area one was or still is, I would highly advise anyone to STAY CLEAR OF NAMI. They're supposed to be compassionate, understanding, etc. but, instead, they're a wolf in sheep's clothing.
